No one knows for sure where William Nickerson and his wife Anne are buried, but it is likely to be nearby if not in this small cemetery plot. A memorial was placed here in 1915, in the early days of the Nickerson Family Association, by William Emery Nickerson, its founder.

Among William Nickerson’s virtues extolled on this memorial are two of particular interest: “useful citizen” - what an understatement. The other of note is “Progenitor of fifty thousand descendants”.
